Corporal Punishment

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The mother of an 8-year-old boy pepper-sprayed by suburban Denver police as he threw a violent tantrum at his elementary school said Wednesday that she wishes authorities had chosen to talk him down instead.
Police in Lakewood say they pepper-sprayed 8-year-old Aidan Elliott twice Feb. 22 at Glennon Heights Elementary School after he refused to drop a piece of wooden wall trim that he was trying to stab them with.
"I wanted to make something sharp, like if they came out, 'cause i was so mad at them," the boy said on NBC's "Today" show. "I was going to try to whack them with it."

What do you think of that? This little kid could really do some damage with a sharp instrument, why not protect yourselves? I know I would. With all the craziness in our world today, does it matter if you're stabbed by a kid or an adult-- you're still stabbed. I feel for this mom because I am a mom and it's hard to see your own kid as a potential murderer or felon, but be very clear, every murderer is someone's kid.
I believe in the "old school" way of discipline, a little whack to keep 'em straight or let them know you mean business. So much authority has been taken away from the teachers/parents that respect is minimal and the kids don't fear the consequences of their actions. What do you think???

Friday (failed)

I failed to post last Friday for reasons I fail to remember but this Friday I will return with a vengeance.
Life is happening faster than I can keep track of so live life to the full and get the most out of it is my advice. Get the most out of each day by putting the most into each day!

Death and Dying

After the weekend passed and yet another death, I felt overwhelmingly drawn  to start writing about this subject. Perhaps because of so many deaths of people I know well passing away within a short period of time. Maybe it's somehow related to age and I'm older now with adult kids...the cycle of life sorta thing. What gives? This time it was a schoolmate of mine...too much.
I don't wanna grow up, I wanna stay young, let someone take care of me for a change. In a perfect world, huh? People are leaving here before they reach the age of retirement while others are living way beyond what's expected.

Well, since we can't avoid getting older, we certainly can avoid getting OLD. Age is just a number. My mom always says "age is a matter of the mind, and if you don't mind, it don't matter".(L.J.Lonon). Although we can't get around the fact that as we age, new generations are being born and old ones are simply passing on to "heavenly retirement". Youth is something we can control to a certain extent, it begins in our minds. We are what we believe we are. Society has forced us to accept things associated with age as a standard, not me, can't do it.
We must work hard to change that stereotypical crap and maintain our youth so we can be a blessing to a very crazy world who would like nothing more than to extinguish our voices and get rid of anything that resembles Christianity.
My tip for the week is " Pray a little more, Love a little more  Live a Little longer".

FRIDAY

Well, it's Friday at last and I'm about to leave work in a matter of a few minutes. Today was filled with mourning of a co-workers' father . She lost her mom only 2 months ago. This is a tremendous trial of endurance and strength, but I have the belief she and her family will endure. I do want her to know she is allowed to grieve and God's strength, not hers will be much more reliable.
Even though I am not a funeral kind of person, I felt a bit left out at work when I had to stay on the phones while everyone else was attending the memorial...maybe the silence and no one walking the halls is what has that effect. Anyhow it wasn't long before people filled the lobby and I felt "life" again.
Lord, let the heaviness dissipate.

Until later...

FRIDAY

As much as I love Friday, it seems to come quicker than ever before. Time has truly sped up and I'm holding on for dear life so I get as much from it as possible. What I'd like to see happen is when Friday arrives, it moves swiftly to 4:30pm as that is the time I get off and remain there indefinitely until I say move to Saturday. And Saturday should at least remain for 2 days. That's what we call a long weekend!
I have two friends who've lost their dads within the same week, we all attend same church, with many of the same friends. My prayers are with them during this bereavement period, fully knowing how it feels to lose one.Dads are so special...I miss my dad still,  no matter how many years fly by- he's  still the best dad ever. I still see that smile- always glad to see his family . Consolation is we will see each other again one day and "oh, what a beautiful day". Watch out Heaven!!!

The Eastside High School athlete who collapsed earlier this week died overnight.

That's just one more teen death, untimely to say the least...TOO MANY!!!
Does anyone feel what I feel, that there's absolutely too much death and dying and killing lately? I feel a bit overwhelmed right now. Within the last year there've been friends, friends of friends, friend's families, passing away in record numbers. I've hardly gotten through one death when another is announced. Just this morning, I found out that a friend's mom passed  away a few weeks ago and as usual it seems I just saw her. The transition from life to death is so quick. As someone dear to me recently said "Stop this train, I wanna get off now." Let's pray for a little reprieve, time to sort out our lives, relish the important things, hold on to our dear ones with all our might.

I do know Jesus loves us and feels our pain. God designed us to get over death and realize that life goes on even when we think this terrible time of bereavement will never pass.

May we rest in knowing that JOY comes in the morning...which morning , I'm not so sure, but it WILL come.

Aging

Should we age gracefully or should we just put up a fight? I say fight and win the battle.
I found a quote by Alan Bleasdale which states " I think when the horror of being fifty hits you, you should stay home and have a good cry." And I say "If your parents are still alive, ask them why they didn't wait ten years before having you, then you'd only be forty." quote by Linda Lofton.
